The NXT GEN Above Ground Meter Box (AGB) is a pre-plumbed, high-performance water metering system designed for domestic and municipal applications. Manufactured from UV-stabilised polymer, it provides long-lasting protection against harsh outdoor conditions while ensuring easy access for meter reading and maintenance.

This innovative above-ground meter box is compatible with Precision Meters post-paid, pre-paid, AMR/AMI and water control systems, making it a versatile and future-ready choice for water utilities and residential developments across South Africa.

Applications

Ideal for new installations, meter replacements or upgrades, the NXT GEN AGB accommodates a range of modern metering technologies:

  1. What is Sigfox and why would I need it?
    Sigfox is a low-power wireless network used by some smart/pre-paid meters to send readings or status data. It enables remote monitoring where Sigfox coverage is available.
  2. What’s the difference between AMR and AMI?
    • AMR = Automatic Meter Reading (one-way: meter → reader).
    • AMI = Advanced Metering Infrastructure (two-way: meter ↔ utility) for remote reads, alerts, and configuration.
  3. How does maintenance work?
    You don’t dig up or remove the box. The top lifts off and the pre-plumbed meter module is replaced, cutting time, labour, and material costs.
  4. Can I upgrade from post-paid to pre-paid later?
    Yes. The AGB is modular—swap in a pre-paid or ultrasonic module without replacing the AGB base.
  5. What security features does the AGB have?
    A unique key-lock system, tamper-resistant design, and a spring-loaded display cover that protects the counter/LCD.
  6. How are meter readings taken?
    Use the meter reading slot; the spring-loaded cover slides back to view the meter counter or LCD. With AMR/AMI or Sigfox, readings can be automated.
  7. What’s a Water Control Device?
    It dispenses preset daily volumes or schedules water delivery—useful for demand management and equitable allocation.
  8. When should I choose ultrasonic vs piston?
    Ultrasonic meters have no moving parts and do not measure air and are not damaged by suspended solids. These meters have excellent low-flow accuracy, and built in smart features.

    Piston meters are a lower cost option and are robust and cost-effective.

  9. Can the AGB be used for replacements/retrofits?
    Yes. It’s ideal for replacing old meters. Install the base once, then swap meter modules in minutes when replacing post paid meters or upgrading to pre-paid meters or smart metering.
