PRECISION METERS
A polymer surface meter box with an N.R.C.S. approved Class C 15mm or 20mm Polymer/DZR Brass water meter and SABS-approved 20mm 3-way plastic trickle flow ball valve. The UV stabilised lid offers extra strength, while the clip-on base plate and reinforced 20mm BSP inlet/outlet fittings ensure secure installation.
Thank you for purchasing this high-quality Precision Meters polymer surface/ground level meter box. The water meter fitted in this meter box has been fully Tested and Verified in Precision Meters SANAS Accredited Verification Laboratory by a registered Verification Officer prior to it being supplied. This water meter is verified to SANS 1529-1: 2019 Class C specifications and it is supplied in a fully functional condition.
A water meter is a precision measuring device which has fine tolerances between its moving parts. It is designed for the measurement of potable water only. Grit, sand, or other suspended solids passing through this water meter will cause the piston to jam and cause irreparable scouring damage to both piston and chamber. Damage of this type caused during the installation process is not covered under the Precision Meters warranty.
It is essential that the meter installer works cleanly during the installation process. The pipeline must be flushed thoroughly prior to the installation of this water meter.
The meter assembly fitted inside this meter box has been fully pressure tested at the factory prior to dispatch and it is leak free at time of supply.
Precautions must be taken to prevent the water inside the water meter from freezing. Water expands when water freezes. Freezing will damage the meter internals and will distort/burst the meter body. The meter box should also be installed at least one meter away from any cold point like a standpipe for example where the water can freeze back down the pipeline from that point.
Do not solder capillary type fittings while fitted to the inlet/outlet of the meter box or use heat while this meter box is fitted in the pipeline. Heat travels down the pipe during this process and this will damage the internals of the water meter irreparably.
Any position where the meter fitted inside this meter box may be subjected to shock, cavitation, water hammer or surging due to rapid operation of valves etc. must be avoided as damage to the meter will result.
This meter box has passed the SABS light duty load test. (7 Kn.) It is suitable for pedestrian and light vehicle traffic only. Do not install this meter box where any heavy vehicular traffic is expected, and the meter box will be damaged structurally if subjected to any excessive weight.
The soil directly under the meter box must be well compacted before the installation of the meter box and the meter box must be placed on a foundation of two bricks or a small concrete slab to ensure stability and prevent movement and subsidence of the meter box after installation. Failure to comply will result in shear stress damage being caused to the inlet/outlet connections of the meter box and pipe connection should the meter box be subjected to heavy loads.
Typical surface meter box installation.
