Installation Instructions

Thank you for purchasing this high-quality Precision Meters Multi-jet water meter. This water meter has been fully Tested and Verified in Precision Meters SANAS Accredited Verification Laboratory by a registered Verification Officer prior to it being supplied. This water meter is verified to SANS 1529-1: 2019 Class B specifications and it is supplied in a fully functional condition.

A water meter is a precision measuring device which has fine tolerances between its moving parts. It is designed for the measurement of potable water only. Grit, sand, or other suspended solids passing through this water meter will cause irreparable damage to the meter. Damage of this type caused during the installation process is not covered under Precision Meters warranty.

It is essential that the meter installer works cleanly during the installation process. The pipeline must be flushed thoroughly prior to the installation of this water meter.

This water meter is type approved by the NRCS for horizontal installation only. Under the circumstances must this meter be installed vertically or on its side.

This water meter must be installed using the correct water meter tail pieces. These must be purchased separately. N.B. Standard female pipe adaptors must not be screwed directly onto the inlet/outlet of the water meter itself under any circumstances.

Note: This is a cold-water meter which has a maximum working temperature of 50 °C. Should the water temperature at the metering point exceed this, this meter will be damaged irreparably. N.B. Do not solder capillary-type fittings while fitted to the meter or use heat while this meter is fitted in the pipeline. Heat travels through the pipe during this process and this will damage the internals of the water meter irreparably.

Any position where the meter may be subjected to vibration, shock, cavitation, water hammer, or surging due to rapid operation of valves etc. must be avoided as this will affect the meter's accuracy and damage to the meter will result.

Ensure that the pipework at the metering point lines up correctly so that damage to the meter by installation stresses is prevented. Shear stress will damage this water meter.

Precautions must be taken to prevent freezing. A meter will be damaged and could even burst if the water freezes. The meter should also be installed at least one meter away from

any cold/freezing point like a standpipe for example where the water can freeze back down the pipeline from that point.

  1. Horizontal Installation
Ensure the meter is installed horizontally with the counter facing upward. Verify that the installation is level.
  2. Attach Tailpieces
Fit the separately supplied tailpieces to the water meter using the provided sealing washers.
  3. Apply Thread Sealing Tape
Wrap P.T.F.E. thread sealing tape around the male threads of the tailpiece linings.
  4. Attach Pipe Adaptors:
Screw appropriate female pipe adaptors onto the male end of the tailpiece lining. Note: Avoid overtightening, as this can cause leaks. The sealing tape creates the waterproof seal, not the tightness of the fitting.
  5. Positioning the Meter
Choose a location where the water meter will always be full of water. Do not install it at the discharge end of a pipe.
  6. Check Flow Direction
An arrow on the meter body indicates the correct flow direction. Install the meter in line with this arrow to ensure correct flow. The built-in non-return valve will prevent flow if installed in reverse.
  7. Install Shutoff Valve
Place a shutoff valve in the pipeline upstream of the meter for convenient future maintenance.
  8. Connect and Secure Fittings
Fit the meter by connecting the pipe to the adaptors and tightening the fittings securely.
  9. Charge the Lines Gradually
When turning the water on, do so gradually to allow all air to escape before fully opening the valve. Subjecting the meter to high-velocity air can cause irreversible damage. Ensure the pipeline is entirely filled with water and all air is expelled before opening the valve fully for proper meter operation.
